Senior Analytical Chemist
We are looking for a Senior Analytical Chemist for our Westbury, NY facility. In this role you will develop testing methods to support new product development through commercialization using at a minimum ICP, XRD and XRF spectroscopy and will optimize lab test methods and procedures for a wide range of thermal spray products to support the resourceful and efficient operation of the lab.
Your Responsibilities:
- Develop test methods to support commercialization of new products.
- Optimize lab test methods and procedures.
- Participate in multifunctional teams to drive new product development through commercialization.
- Support non-standard sample testing.
- Provide training in analytical tools and techniques for powder analysis and characterization.
- Participate in round robin and proficiency testing programs and maintain lab policies and procedures.
- Troubleshoot laboratory equipment failures and, as necessary, promptly obtains the support of facilities or outside contractors to ensure minimal disruption of lab operations.
- Support the installation of new equipment/software and validation.
- Provide input into annual lab budget and potential capital expenditure projects
- Collaborates with R&D on new product development.
- Interacts with quality engineering on First Article Inspection Testing.
- Collaborates with process engineering and production on continuous improvement projects.
- Interfaces with internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop test methods and SAP inspection plans for new products.
- Revise existing test methods and procedures.
- On time calibrations, preventive maintenance, and service contracts in accordance with the schedule.
Your Profile:
- Master’s degree in chemistry preferred (or other science related degree) with at least 10 years laboratory experience preferably in a Nadcap Materials Testing or ISO 17025 certified laboratory.
- Experience with the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment including ICP, XRF and XRD.
- Relevant competencies with MS Office, SAP, and LIMS.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 14001 or other similar standards.
- Strong problem-solving, team building, and mentoring abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to represent the company professionally and communicate clearly and confidently.

Oerlikon is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the current compensation range for this position, which is $96,200- $115,500 per year. Some positions within Oerlikon may also offer eligibility to participate in a discretionary incentive program. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for the role will be based on a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, internal equity, job location, work experience, education, training, certifications, licenses, etc. Therefore, as compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each individual, it is likely that not all applicants will be hired at the highest end of the listed compensation range. Our total compensation package goes beyond base compensation and it will include a competitive benefits package starting with 2 weeks paid time off accrued on a monthly basis, 12 holidays, 48 hours personal/sick time (exception for NY where we follow State law,) medical, dental, vision, 401K, holidays, pet insurance and tuition reimbursement all effective day one of hire.
