
Product Engineer II - Mechanical and Flow Systems
We are looking for a Product Engineer II for our Huntersville, NC facility. The position is a key member of the Product Engineering team responsible for interpreting customer requirements and maturing a component’s manufacturing steps through development, qualification, and production ramp up in line with the Oerlikon’s APQP/product maturity process (AS9145). The product engineering team uses standardized internal processes and best practices defined by the process team to satisfy customer and component requirements. Adaptation of internal processes for a specific customer or component is completed in cooperation with the process engineering team during the APQP process.
In the execution of APQP/product maturity process, this role is responsible for solving unforeseen technical challenges and creating internal manufacturing documents to deliver fully conforming and repeatable components to the customer.
This role will work closely with multiple teams within the building:
• Commercial team:
To ensure new business is being brought in with the prerequisite level of development and qualification work to ensure success within the factory.
• Operations team:
To ensure that all manufacturing steps have clear instructions and controls to manufacture the product successfully.
• Quality team:
To ensure all drawing and specification requirements have been entirely satisfied.

Your Responsibilities:
- Develop, Qualify, & Release all customer part numbers manufactured in Oerlikon AM US Huntersville in compliance to Oerlikon’s APQP/product maturity process.
- Technical management of the APQP/product maturity process including all applicable documentation required for each gate in the process:
- Part Fabrication Requirements (PFR)
- AM Build Configurations
- AM Job Files
- SAP Routings & BOM
- Component Specific Work instructions and Inspection plans
- Provide technical and manufacturing input for quoting of customer programs.
- Provide feedback as subject matter expert (SME) on design for AM and manufacturing for a variety of customer components to ensure parts can be both printed and post processed according to drawing and specification requirements.
- Utilize simulation and design software to modify components as needed for manufacturability.
- Investigate new design and simulation software to support OAM’s unique selling points.
- Component CAM programming prior to release to production as required based on complexity.
- Follow direction from Level 3 Engineers to support the product engineering team goals and deliverables.
Your Profile:
• Minimum 4 year bachelor's degree in Engineering. Preferred fields of Engineering include Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, System Design, or Materials.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in engineering within a regulated industry. Preferred experience in new product introduction and component maturation.
• Knowledge of AM/3D printing, machining, heat treatment, EDM, cleaning and finishing (grit blast, tumbling, abrasive flow or chemical machining, manual support removal), part marking, assembly methods, and inspection techniques (vision systems, CMM, gaging)
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, including an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
Required Skills & Expertise
- Proficient with at least one 3D modelling software package (ex: Solidworks, NX, Magics, etc.).
- Ability to work on multi-variable manufacturing challenges and create technical plans to mitigate risk and drive project success.
- Preferred expertise in CNC programming and fixturing
- Comfortable working in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to generate and clearly present technical data to both technical and non-technical audience.
- Thorough experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Self-motivated and resilient, rebounds from failure quickly.
