Process Engineer 
 

 

We are looking for a Process Engineer for our Plymouth, MI facility. In this role you will be the subject matter expert on the products and manufacturing processes within the Plymouth Manufacturing Site.  You will supports the day-to-day powder manufacturing operation and lead continuous improvement projects.

 

Your Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a technical resource for Production personnel.
  • Sustain and/or improve product yield and quality.
  • Manage technical projects, under some guidance from more senior engineers or engineering manager.
  • Identify and execute continuous improvement projects (yield improvements, cost savings initiatives, cycle time reductions, variability reduction, first time right initiatives etc.).
  • Identify and propose upgrades and/or purchase of new equipment.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors.
  • Support and/or lead various capital expenditure projects.
  • Lead and/or support root cause investigations.
  • Address non-conformances.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain SAP master data (bills of material, recipes, etc.).
  • Create charge calculations according to product specifications.
  • Work closely with the Controller on product costing and other financial analyses.
  • Transfer new products and technologies from R&D to Production (scale up).
  • Create, update, and provide training on work instructions, manufacturing batch records, and other documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Your Profile:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering preferred; experience may substitute
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience in a bulk material production environment
  • U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder
  • SAP Transactions: Proficiency in SAP is preferred. Standard and custom transactions within SAP will be used.
  • Computer Programs and/or Internet Sites: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required. Working knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Ability to use basic manual and powered tools (wrenches, drills, etc.) preferred
  • Intermediate knowledge of electro-mechanical equipment/systems, including PLC, required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work within a cross-functional team. Ability to train personnel with a wide range of skill levels on various techniques/processes.
  • Governmental Guidelines / Regulations;  etc: Familiarity with ISO 9001/AS9100D or other quality management systems is preferred.  Familiarity with industry-standard safety regulations is preferred.
  • Eagerness to get hands-on with dirty, noisy, and hot equipment when help is needed.
  • Knowledge of powder manufacturing, thermal spray processes, and thermodynamics preferred
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, and maintenance and facilities activities preferred
  • Knowledge of lean and six sigma methodologies preferred
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality System Standard preferred
  • Familiarity with AS9100 QMS Standard preferred
