Head of Indirect Materials Procurement (gn) 

 

We are looking for a Head of Indirect Materials Procurement based at our Garching facility. This role will have global responsibility for Indirect Materials Procurement, including spend management, savings delivery, category strategies, supplier performance, projects, processes, systems and tools. The role ensures that indirect procurement activities are aligned with agreed targets, approved budgets, compliance requirements and the company’s overall strategy, while creating sustainable value for all Oerlikon businesses.

 

 

Your Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop, implement and continuously improve global indirect materials procurement strategies with a clear focus on sustainable cost reduction, supplier value creation, risk mitigation and business continuity.
  • Lead the Global Indirect Materials Procurement organization, including central, regional and functional procurement resources, and ensure clear governance, roles and responsibilities.
  • Manage and optimize global indirect materials spend across Oerlikon, including category strategy development, strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations and contract management.
  • Drive spend transparency, savings tracking and global procurement reporting across all businesses, ensuring reliable KPIs, measurable impact and consistent reporting standards.
  • Design, implement and standardize procurement processes, systems and tools to improve efficiency, compliance, data quality and user adoption across the organization.
  • Ensure regular Procurement Committee meetings, effective decision making and follow-up on strategic procurement priorities.
  • Ensure that the procurement strategy is reviewed annually and translated into clear initiatives, targets, roadmaps and implementation plans.
  • Use procurement KPIs to drive performance, continuous improvement, compliance and accountability across the procurement organization.
  • Coordinate with relevant procurement counterparts, regions, countries and business owners on category strategies, strategic sourcing activities and real estate related procurement topics.
  • Provide standards, processes, tools and governance for real estate procurement activities, where applicable.
  • Ensure market intelligence, supplier market trends, benchmark data and price developments are available to support sourcing decisions.
  • Promote best-practice sharing, cross-business collaboration and procurement capability development across Oerlikon.
  • Deliver annual indirect materials savings in line with approved targets and financial commitments.
  • Establish transparent global spend, savings and KPI reporting for indirect materials procurement.
  • Centrally define and continuously improve procurement systems, processes and tools.
  • Develop and maintain a global real estate procurement strategy, including KPIs, governance and portfolio optimization support where applicable.
  • Deliver EBIT-relevant cost improvements through procurement spend optimization, sourcing projects and supplier negotiations.
  • Lead and coordinate the Global Indirect Materials Procurement organization to ensure execution discipline, stakeholder alignment and measurable business impact.
  • Deliver strategic procurement projects on time, on budget and with clearly documented benefits.

 

Your Profile:

  • University degree in business administration, supply chain management, engineering or a comparable field; advanced degree or procurement certification is an advantage.
  • Extensive leadership experience in strategic procurement, preferably with global responsibility for indirect materials and cross-regional teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement processes, category management, strategic sourcing, supplier management, contract management, systems and tools.
  • Strong understanding of procurement governance, compliance requirements, risk management and internal control standards.
  • Analytical and innovative mindset, including solid knowledge of market intelligence, benchmarking, supplier markets and best practices in real estate procurement where applicable.
  • Experience in procurement project development, implementation, digitalization and relevant legal or contractual frameworks.
  • Proven experience in driving change, transformation and stakeholder alignment in a complex international matrix organization.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skills with practical experience in driving change across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including executive management, business stakeholders, procurement teams and suppliers.
  • Very strong project management, problem-solving, conflict management and decision-making skills.
  • Commercial mindset with strong financial acumen, analytical capability and ability to translate procurement initiatives into measurable business impact.
  • Independent working style, high ownership, resilience and accountability for results.
  • Enthusiastic self-starter and convincing team player with the ability to build trust in a matrix environment.
  • Digital procurement mindset and ability to leverage data, systems and tools to improve transparency, efficiency and compliance.
  • Fluency in English; additional languages are desirable.
  • Willingness to travel globally.
