Technologist 
 

 

We are looking for a Technologist for our Fort Saskatchewan facility. In this role you provide timely and quality sample analysis in support of Production; R&D; and external customers. Technologists are expected to be involved in troubleshooting; method development; design of experiment; documentation; and maintaining Quality systems such as ISO/AS 9100; Nadcap; etc.; Technologists may assist in special processes or projects related to material analysis techniques (thermal coatings, metallurgy, instrumentation, information) or quality control.

 Your Responsibilities:

  • Conduct evaluations (hardness, tensile testing, erosion, etc) for quality control purposes.
  • Perform brazing of welding rods and conduct evaluations for quality control purposes.
  • Metallographic preparation and evaluation of powders and coated specimens, including section, mount, grind and polish, hardness testing, microstructure by optical microscope and SEM.
  • Calibrate, maintain and trouble-shoot instruments.
  • Maintain controlled lab procedures and documentation.
  • Develop; implement; setup; and maintain new processes in the laboratory.
  • Sampling in operations of raw materials, work in process, and finished goods.
  • Safe and environmentally conscious.
  • Conducts routine and detailed test procedures related to raw materials inspection; process control; product certifications and R&D samples.
  • Maintains the work area (good housekeeping); analytical equipment as well as ensuring consumables are available.
  • Sample login; analysis; data collection; recording; interpretation and reporting according to laboratory standards.

 Your Profile:

  • Post secondary education in Instrumental Engineering Technology; Chemical, Metallurgy; or Materials Science or equivalent is the minimum requirement.
  • Must be disciplined and have good troubleshooting skills.
  • Hands on laboratory skills working with chemicals; instrumentation.
  • Ability to deal with demanding customers is a must working in a servicing environment.
  • Technologists in the Quality Control area may require certifications from customers.
