EHS Coordinator

EHS Coordinator 
 

 

Reporting to the HSE Manager, Fort Saskatchewan Operations, the HSE Coordinator is responsible for aspects of Oerlikon Metco (Canada) Inc.'s Health and Safety, and Environment systems.  As a key member of the Operational team, you will be accountable for assisting with the occupational safety and health of employees, contractors, customers, and neighbors; and help ensure that operations are conducted in an environmentally responsible and safe manner.  You will work closely with all departments on site, and build relationships with all levels within the organization to allow a strong understanding of the site and participate in improvement projects.  You will help develop and maintain loss prevention initiatives that meet group policies, and occupational health, safety and environmental legislation.   

 

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve various issues as they relate to health, safety and environment.
  • Continuous improvements to health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Work closely with Supervisors, Managers and Engineering team to implement changes.
  • Proactively engage in meetings regarding new processes, materials and implementation of new projects.
  • Work with the production facility to ensure it is operating within the parameters set out in the environmental operating approval.
  • Reporting, organizing and reviewing site monitoring activities, including stack testing and water sampling.
  • Reporting and investigating any EHS incidents that may occur.
  • Support and/or lead EHS audits on site.
  • Assist with development, implementation and maintenance of ISO certifications and other HSE systems as deemed necesary.
  • Support EHS training activites.
  • Lead site inductions for visitors, contractors and new employees.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 5+ years experience in an industrial environment
  • Post-secondary degree in chemistry or engineering is an asset
  • A CRSP designation is preferred, an NCSO would be an asset.
  • Internal auditing experience / training with ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage projects
  • Superior organizational skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Collaborative and relationship building skills
  • Strong knowledge of base environmental / health and safety legislation and skills to conduct research
