
Junior Materials Engineer (gn)
The Oerlikon Application Lab specializes in the development and execution of advanced testing designed to replicate customers’ applications where coatings are required. Its primary objective is to evaluate system performance under conditions that closely simulate real-world operating environments.
Your Responsibilities
- Manage testing requests with internal and external clients and recommend suitable wear-testing solutions
- Plan, coordinate, and execute wear tests on coated components using standard tribometers, or collaborate with our engineering team to develop dedicated testing equipment
- Characterize, evaluate, and analyze tested samples using analytical equipment, and interpret test results
- Project management, including scheduling, documentation, coordination of testing activities, communication with stakeholders, and collaboration with suppliers and external partners regarding sample machining and advanced analytical investigations
- Contribute to quality assurance through systematic test execution, and proper tracking and documentation of machine activities and test outcomes
- Support the team with administrative tasks, such as purchase orders, shipment requests and maintain quality documents
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in materials engineering or apprenticeship as a physics lab technician with further education at a university of applied science (Fachhochschule)
- First professional experiences in tribology, especially in coatings and surface engineering
- Fluent in English; proficiency in German is an advantage
- Willing to travel and work up to 20% at our testing facility in Brugg-Windisch in Switzerland
- Hands-on mentality and practical problem-solving ability
- Strong work ethic, detail-oriented, and creative mindset
