Quality Engineer
We are looking for a Quality Engineer for our Amherst, NY facility. Oerlikon Balzers Coating USA is seeking an energetic, technical and detail-oriented individual. The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting the Center in driving quality and improvement activities within the production facility. Through the use and knowledge of testing, analysis, quality tools, (SPC, cpk, control charts, Ishikawa diagram etc.), and Oerlikon Balzers Standards, the Quality Engineer ensures that quality problems are effectively addressed and that quality standards for products and processes are being implemented and adhered to.
Your Responsibilities:
- Analyze trends through data mining and analysis and conduct quality improvement activities to find and resolve product and process issues through root cause analysis and problem solving techniques
- Interface with customers to resolve quality issues and facilitate quality-planning (APQP) and development of product and process work instructions for customer specific requirements.
- Participate in the analysis and disposition of non-conforming product as required
- Support of semiconductor business:
- Daily and Weekly Analytical Reports
- Failure Analysis & Studies
- Customer specifications regarding inspection criteria and disposition
- Continuous Improvement
- Maintain the ISO 9001 QMS systems to ensure compliance with global, national and local requirements.
- Conduct quality audits as prescribed by the local quality registration (ISO, or Customer Requirements)
- Provide training and support to employees on all quality concerns, customer complaints and application of quality methodologies
- Support in the maintenance and creation of operational work instructions for Production and Quality.
Your Profile:
- Proven technical capabilities combined with a post-secondary diploma in quality or science related discipline
- Professional certification in quality disciplines (ASQ Certified Quality Engineer) is preferred.
- Two years experience in a quality engineering role in a manufacturing and/or production environment
- Effectively use problem-solving tools such as Pareto charts, 5-why, SPC methodologies, Cause and Effect diagrams as well as 8D, or similar problem solving disciplines.
- Proficient using MS Office; Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Experience with Minitab or other statistical software a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with strong presentation and team-building skills
- Previous experience in implementing and executing ISO 9001 QMS

Oerlikon is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the current compensation range for this position, which is $ $85,920 - $107,400 per year. Some positions within Oerlikon may also offer eligibility to participate in a discretionary incentive program. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for the role will be based on a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, internal equity, job location, work experience, education, training, certifications, licenses, etc. Therefore, as compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each individual, it is likely that not all applicants will be hired at the highest end of the listed compensation range. Our total compensation package goes beyond base compensation and it will include a competitive benefits package starting with 2 weeks paid time off accrued on a monthly basis, 12 holidays, 48 hours personal/sick time (exception for NY where we follow State law,) medical, dental, vision, 401K, holidays, pet insurance and tuition reimbursement all effective day one of hire.
